The Year 2016 in the Chapel of the Healing Cross is our prophetic year of Kindness- “Kindness: Kindness to one another in Christ” (Ephesians4:32). No greater kindness is the kindness of God through His love in action sending His only begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to die for our sins and reconcile us back to Himself. He then gave us the Ministry of Reconciliation (2Corinthians 5:18-19). The Evangelism and Missions Committee of Council is thus responsible for propagation of this kindness of God through handling and development of evangelism both outreach and in-reach. Our 2016 programmes were therefore, tailored to impact on members and our immediate environment through the help and direction of the Holy Spirit.
REPORT OF ACTIVITIES IN 2016
1.ADULT MISSION 2016-WEEK OF EMPHASIS:
The Adult Mission – Week of Emphasis of the Series on “Bearing the fruit of the Spirit in the third millennium with…..
” continued this year 2016 with the Central Theme “Kindness: Kindness to one another
” Ephesians 4:32. The week-long event was anchored to the glory of God by the year’s Sole Missioner/ Guest Preacher, The Rt. Revd. Michael Akinwale, the Lord Bishop of Remo Diocese, Methodist Church of Nigeria. This served as a soul tonic for the year. It was a great Revival! It also set the platform for subsequent Holy Spirit filled teachings throughout the year 2016- our year of Kindness
. We congratulate our Sole/Chief Mission for the year, The Rt. Revd. Michael Akinwale, the Lord Bishop for his appointment as the Secretary of Conference, Methodist Church, Nigeria. May our good God continue to prosper your ministry and be kind to you always.
: Jesus counseled his disciples in Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak”. The Evangelism and Missions Committee continued in its mandate on facilitation of the Quarterly Vigil Programme of Chapel.
We appreciate The One- heart- One –Voice and The Healing Cross band that continued to minister through music at the vigils. God bless them, their families and their ministries in Jesus’ name.
2.LENTEN SEASON AND EASTER OUTREACHES:
2.1 GOOD FRIDAY TRACTS DISTRIBUTION IN LUTH AND ITS ENVIRONS:
Members of Chapel were mobilized on Good Friday for distribution of tracts in LUTH and its environ.
2.2 EASTER MONDAY HOSPITAL VISITATION AND GIFT DISTRIBUTION IN THE PAEDIATRIC WARDS IN LUTH:
The Evangelism and missions group continued to show the kindness of God through the visitation of the Paediatric wards in LUTH on Easter Monday. Gifts were distributed and prayers said for all in-patients. Matthew 25: 31-40 “…. I was sick and you looked after me….”
3.WELCOME PROGRAMME FOR FIRST TIME WORSHIPPERS AND INVITATION SUNDAY:
The Evangelism and Missions group continued to create a good first impression during the Welcoming of First time worshippers. A comprehensive cumulative list of the first time worshippers is available. A few that indicated interest in worshiping with us were followed up on and are now worshipping with us.
The April ‘Invitation Sunday
’ was facilitated by the group. Though the turnout was not too impressive, we are hopeful that it will improve with better sensitization of members of the congregation. We believe that if 50% of Chapel members double themselves in one year; it is possible to double the number of worshippers in the Chapel in two years.
4.LET’S GO A FISHING PROGRAMME
: The One – on- One evangelism continued in the year under review. The Evangelism group goes out to evangelize in our immediate community on the first Saturday of the month after breakfast fellowship.
TRAINING FOR THE YOUTHS
: A one day training was organized for the Youth (Ages 18-30) to further empower our youths with the requisite skill for One – on – One Evangelism and follow ups. The training was conducted by the Great Commission Movement of Nigeria.
: The Alpha Course is an effective tool for Evangelism and Discipleship. It has 3 Elements: The Talk, The Fellowship and The Small group discussions. The First edition was the Training of selected 35 members of Chapel (Train- the – Trainer). This lasted for seven Saturdays’. One of the major highlights was The Holy Spirt Day Away, wherein majority of the trainees after an encounter with the Holy Spirit identified their spiritual gifts and pledged to use it in Chapel for the edification of the church of God. Having gone through the course we can testify that Alpha Course presents the core truth of the Christian faith. It is indeed an effective tool for evangelism and discipleship. It has the capacity of increasing church growth particularly Spiritual growth and also numerical growth. It brings back life to churches. Consequently the Evangelism and Missions Committee have adopted ALPHA COURSE as a veritable tool for evangelism and discipleship. The Second edition of training would be completed this year 2016. The training will continue through 2017 and beyond through Christ that enables us. It is the desire of the Evangelism and Missions Committee that every member of the Chapel should be an effective Evangelist, showing great interest in the Ministry of Reconciliation. Our gratitude goes to the Fellowship of Peace for the full sponsorship of the first edition of the Alpha Course.
