Text: LK 11:24-26; Eph. 5:30; (1 Jn 5:6)
Begin The Month With God: Get Out of the Dry Place!
As we embark on a new month, we are reminded of the importance of starting each phase of our lives with God. This month, our focus is on the topic: “Get Out of the Dry Place!” Guided by the scriptures from Luke 11:24-26 and Ephesians 5:30, we are called to rejuvenate our spirits and align ourselves with God’s will.
Understanding the Dry Place
In Luke 11:24-26, Jesus describes a scenario where an unclean spirit, having left a person, wanders through arid places seeking rest but finding none. It decides to return to its former home, finding it unoccupied, swept clean, and put in order. Then, it takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. The final condition of that person is worse than the first.
This passage serves as a profound metaphor for our spiritual lives. The “dry place” represents a state of spiritual barrenness and stagnation, where we are devoid of the refreshing presence of God. It’s a place where the enemy can easily find a foothold if we are not vigilant.
The Call to Move Forward
In contrast, Ephesians 5:30 reminds us of our unity with Christ: “For we are members of his body.” This verse underscores the importance of staying connected to Jesus, who is the source of our spiritual vitality. When we remain in Him, we are nourished and empowered to overcome the dryness in our lives.
Steps to Get Out of the Dry Place
Acknowledge Your Need for God: Recognize that you cannot thrive spiritually without God’s presence. Confess any sins or distractions that have led you away from Him.
Seek God’s Presence Daily: Make a commitment to spend time in prayer, worship, and reading the Bible every day. As 1 John 5:6 reminds us, it is the Spirit who testifies because the Spirit is the truth. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide and refresh you.
Fill Your Life with Godly Influences: Surround yourself with fellow believers who encourage and support your spiritual growth. Participate in church activities, join a Bible study group, and seek out mentors who can help you stay focused on God.
Guard Your Heart and Mind: Be mindful of what you allow into your life. Avoid negative influences that can lead you back into spiritual dryness. Instead, fill your heart and mind with God’s Word and positive, uplifting content.
Serve Others: Engage in acts of service and kindness. Serving others can help shift your focus from your own struggles and open your heart to God’s love and compassion.
Conclusion
As we begin this new month, let us commit to moving out of the dry places in our lives and into the abundant life that God promises us. By staying connected to Jesus and seeking His presence daily, we can overcome spiritual dryness and experience a renewed, vibrant relationship with Him.
Let’s take this journey together, trusting in God’s guidance and strength. Remember, with God, every new beginning is an opportunity for growth and transformation.
May this month be filled with His presence, blessings, and the joy of being in a thriving relationship with Him. Get out of the dry place and step into the abundant life God has for you!
