The ministry of good music is essential to the worship of the Living God. To this end, the Chapel has endeavoured to build up both the Choir and the Congregation for a good and uplifting pattern of singing. This we achieve through regular choir workshops / retreats and Music Teaching Sundays incorporated into the 10am service.
The journey in 2022
On Sunday February 13, 2022, the Choir led the Music Teaching Sunday Service. The MTS for 2022 was both a theoretical/practical class, as members of the congregation were taught the subject ‘Metres’ and how to select tunes which could rhyme with several hymns based on the metre. It was indeed an interactive and enlightening session based on the feedback received. Choruses written by Chapel members were also taught to the congregation in the course of the service. A major highlight of the 2022 MTS was having the oldest member of the Chapel in the person of Prince. J.A. A. Adebayo (94years) sing a verse of a song he put together Miserere Domine. It was a delight watching and listening to the Nonagenarian singing the last verse of the song.
The Choir embarked on her Annual Recess on February 27, 2022 – March 20, 2022 while the Choir retreat held on the 25th and 26th of March 2022 with the central theme: Choristers as Noble Vessels (2 Timothy 2 vs 20-21). After several years of having a 1-day retreat with the arrival and departure of choristers on the same day, the 2022 retreat was uniquely different as the Chapel choir decided to embark on a 2-day retreat. The 2022 retreat committee was led by Mr. Lanre Bolu with the support of select members of the Chapel Choir and the Chapel Executives. The Orchid Hotel was selected as the abode for lodging the choristers and members of the IBUC. The CRM, Bishop-Elect (Chapel Choir Chaplain) was at the venue on the 1st day to declare the Retreat open and to offer words of advice to the choristers. On the 2nd day of the retreat, the Chapel Choir was hosted by The Very. Rev Dr. Ayo Richards at the Wesley Chapel Lekki for the entire day.
The first segment of the retreat was handled by The Very. Rev Dr. Ayo Richards, where he gracefully and skillfully guided the choir on the roles of music in worship and what it entailed to be a Nobel Vessel in God’s vineyard. He encouraged the choristers to remain faithful stewards, to be accountable and ultimately not to abandon their duty post.
The second segment of the retreat was facilitated by Mr. Seun Owoaje, a former lecturer in music at the Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U.) where he also did justice to the Central theme albeit focusing on Church Musicians as Noble Vessels.
Another significant event for the Choir was the 2022 Easter Concert sponsored by the Fellowship of love which was incorporated with the 10am worship same as last year. …… It was themed “In Praise of Christ our risen noble king and Saviour” Exodus 15:2 and featured the Chapel Choir, Youth Service Choir and Sunday School Choir.
With the dedication of the Chapel Recording studio, the Chapel choir put together some special hymns for Good Friday and Easter for the upliftment and enrichment of the spirits of Chapel members both at home and in the diaspora.
The Recording studio is made available to the Sunday School for their weekly online teachings for the children and is also readily available for members who intend to record and produce their favourite hymns.
In the course of the year 2022, the Chapel Choir recorded a significant number of events (cornucopia of joys) ranging from, milestone birthdays, retirements, Weddings, Elevations and other landmark events. We are indeed thankful for God’s grace and mercy as we can confidently say that God has constantly been our refuge and strength.
